Chamber Responds to New Import Levy Proposal

Responding to the proposed import levy announced in the national budget, KCCI has urged government to phase in the measure over two years and to exempt essential business inputs such as fuel, building materials and fishing equipment.

In its submission, the Chamber acknowledged the revenue objectives of the levy but warned that an immediate, across-the-board introduction would raise costs sharply for retailers and outer-island consumers.

KCCI has requested a joint working group with the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development to review the levy schedule before it takes effect.
